Maddie Jewell, a sophomore goalie for the Wright State women's soccer team, was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week today by conference officials.
Jewell, a native of Cincinnati, OH, posted her sixth shutout of the year as the Raiders won 1-0 over Cleveland State Wednesday and 1-0 at UIC Saturday night. Jewell posted six saves versus Cleveland State, and two saves in the contest against UIC. She currently has a 0.98 goals against average and a .797 save percentage on the season in 14 games.Â
The Raiders, 10-7 and 5-3, will end the regular season Friday at Detroit Mercy at 4 pm. The Horizon League Tournament will begin next Monday as the three and four seeds will host the five and six seeds. The regular-season champion will host the semi-finals and the finals next weekend. WSU is currently in fourth place.
