Men's Basketball Hosts Wayne State in Free Exhibition
11/2/2017 3:04:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Wright State men's basketball team will have a final tuneup Friday night as they host Wayne State (NE) at 7 pm. The game is free to the public and can be heard on 106.5 FM with Chris Collins and Jim Brown.
Wright State
Th Raiders went 20-12 overall last year. If the Raiders can play that way through their 2017-18 schedule, the result would make a powerful statement. Wright State lost its top two scorers from last year and will attempt to navigate its schedule while asking for significant contributions from players who are either new to the college game or who have not previously needed to assume crucial roles.
Grant Benzinger and Justin Mitchell will be the stabilizing forces. Both are seniors. Benzinger averaged 12.8 points and 5.8 rebounds last season, his third as a starter. He had surgery in the fall and is questionable for Wright State's Nov. 3 exhibition opener. Mitchell contributed significantly in every phase of the game, leading the team in rebounds (8.3) and assists (127) while scoring 11.5 points per game.
Wayne State
Wayne State College was voted 11th overall and sixth in the South Division in the 2017-18 Preseason NSIC Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll. Wildcat junior guard Kendall Jacks was listed as Wayne State's Player to Watch in the NSIC this season.
