The Wright State men's basketball opens the 2017-18 season Friday night at the Gentile Center against Loyola. Game time is 8 pm eastern.
Wright State
The Raiders, 20-12 a year ago, welcome new faces and look for production from returning players as well. Returning will be Justin Mitchell, Parker Ernsthausen while Grant Benzinger remains questionable as he returns from an injury. Other familiar faces who should contribute include junior Mark Hughes, Tye Wilburn and Alan Vest. Newcomers will also have a big say in the Raiders' success this year. Redshirt freshmen Loudon Love and Everett Winchester along with Jaylon Hall will clock minutes as well as starting roles. Redshirt sophomore and South Dakota State transfer Cole Gentry will also fit into the minutes when he becomes eligible after the first semester.
The Raiders defeated Wayne State (NE) 73-58 in an exhibition game on Nov. 3. Mitchell led the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Love finished with 17 points and 12 boards. Hughes hit four threes and ended with 21 points.
Loyola
Seniors Donte Ingram and Aundre Jackson were named Preseason First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference at the league's annual media day as the team was picked to finish third in the poll. Jackson (20 points) was one of four players to score in double figures for Loyola as it rolled to a 79-63 victory over Lewis tonight in an exhibition game at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers connected on 22 of 24 attempts from the foul line en route to the victory.
Series
Wright State leads the overall series 24-16 but the Ramblers won 77-64 last season in Chicago.
Up Next
The Raiders head back to Ohio to play at Miami (OH) Tuesday night.
