Yahoo! Sports college basketball columnist Pat Forde will be the featured speaker at the Third Annual Raider Tip-Off Premiere on Thursday, October 12. The event acts as the launch to the 2017-18 basketball season and will also include a VIP reception, silent auction, dinner, and introductions of the women's and men's basketball teams. The Premiere benefits the Raider Athletic Fund, which helps provide our 275+ student-athletes the support needed to succeed in the classroom and on the field of play.
Head coaches Scott Nagy and Katrina Merriweather are both entering their second seasons at Wright State. The men wrapped up their first season under Coach Nagy with 20 regular season wins for the first time since 2008, and an RPI of 115, the best since 2010. Meanwhile, Coach Merriweather helped guide the women's team to a 25-9 record, its first-ever Horizon League regular season title, and first-ever win in the WNIT against Central Michigan. Those accomplishments earned Merriweather Horizon League Coach of the Year honors. Both coaches will preview the coming season and provide insight into their teams.
Guest speaker Pat Forde specializes in coverage of college football and basketball for Yahoo! Sports. He writes weekly in-season columns named "Forde Yard Dash" and "Forde Minutes". Forde knows the landscape of college basketball, making him an ideal speaker for this year's Tip-Off Premiere. He began his career at the Louisville Courier-Journal and went on to ESPN as a feature writer and made regular appearances on the ESPN family of networks until his move to Yahoo! Sports in 2011.
Doors to the main floor of the arena will open at 6 p.m., with dinner and the evening program beginning at 7:00. VIP and General Admission tickets are available for purchase. Individual VIP tickets start at $115 and General Admission tickets start at $70, and can be purchased through the WSU Athletics Department, located on the third floor of the Nutter Center. Whole-table prices are also available at a discounted rate. Click here to purchase tickets or call (937)775-4936.
