Raiders Take Overtime Loss at Cleveland State

The Wright State women's basketball team fell short in its bid to bounce back after a home loss to IUPUI Sunday as they fell in overtime 71-70 at Cleveland State Thursday night.
The Raiders led by as much as 20 points at 28-8 in the second quarter until Cleveland State roared from behind in the third quarter to take a brief lead. The game teetered back and forth and went to overtime as senior Chelsea Welch's jumper gave WSU the one-point lead with 2.4 on the clock. Ashanti Abshaw hit the 15-foot winner at the buzzer for the win.
Wright State is now 15-6, 6-3, and CSU goes to 13-7, 5-4.

- The Vikings took an early 2-0 lead just to have the Raiders storm back for 16-5 first quarter lead. Emily Vogelpohl and Breaunna Lloyd each had seven points.
- The Raiders continued hot shooting and solid defense on the way to a 37-26 halftime lead.
- Vogelpohl hit 6-8 from the field to lead the way with 16 points while Chelsea Welch had 10 points, and Lloyd had nine.
- WSU shot 41.2% while holding the Vikings to just 25% from the field.
- The second half was different as the Vikings tied the game at 5:55 at a three pointer, capping an 11-0 CSU run. WSU took the lead back, but CSU regained the advantage 40-39.
- WSU led after three quarters 45-44, but were outscored 18-8 in third period.
- Mackenzie Taylor hit deep three at 5:30 for a 54-53 lead, but it didn't hold up long
- Down 62-58 with 35 seconds on the clock, the Raiders managed to tie the game at 62. CSU had a shot at the buzzer, but it rimmed out to force overtime.
- In the overtime, Cleveland State took its largest lead of the game with five quick, unanswered points, but the Raiders managed to come back and stay close.
- Welch hit a 13 footer with 2.4 seconds remaining just to see CSU's Ashanti Abshaw hit a 16 footer as time expired for the Viking win.
- Welch finished with 20 points and Vogelpohl with 18. Lloyd ended with 13 points off the bench as Symone Simmons grabbed her season-best 17 rebounds. Nia Sumpter came off the bench for her career-high nine boards.
- The Raiders ended up shooting 33% from the field while the Vikings shot 43% while both teams host 18% from three.
- The Raiders took 21 more field goals than the Vikings, making five fewer of those shots.
- Wright State outrebounded Cleveland State 57-38 and outscored the Vikings in bench points 15-3, points in the paint 38-32 and second chance points 25-2.
- CSU's Khayla Livingston finished with 25 points as Abshaw posted 22 points.
- The game had seven ties and 12 lead changes.
- The Raiders head to Youngstown State for a 1 pm game Saturday.
- YSU is currently 8-12, 4-5 after winning 54-51 over Northern Kentucky Thursday. WSU defeated YSU on January 15 73-50.
