Raiders Hold Off Penguins for Win

The Wright State women's basketball team held off a late-game rush at Youngstown State for a 69-59 win over the Penguins Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders led by 18 points at 48-30 with 5:53 remaining in the third quarter before the Penguins went on a 17-3 run, taking a two-point lead 56-54 at 3:43. Wright State then outscored YSU 13-5 to notch the victory.
Senior Chelsea Welch had 23 points for her 14th 20-plus scoring day as Emily Vogelpohl finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.Â
The Raiders are now 16-6, 7-3 while the Penguins drop to 8-13, 4-6.

- Vogelpohl's 19 points were her second best effort of the season as she had 21 points at Belmont. Her 10 rebounds marked her fifth double-figure rebounding game of the season.
- Lexi Smith had nine points and five rebounds, and Symone Simmons grabbed eight boards.
- The team's 14 steals tied the second most of the season and forced 19 YSU turnovers.
- YSU outscored the Raiders in the paint 28-26 and 16-7 off the bench.
- Vogelpohl needs 40 points for 1,000 points, and Smith needs 48 points.
