The 2018 Horizon League Champion Wright State men's basketball team will play #3 Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Dallas on Thursday. Â Game time is 12:40 Eastern.Â
The Raiders, making their third Division I NCAA Tournament appearance, were a number two seed in the Horizon League Tournament and went onto to defeat Green Bay, Milwaukee and Cleveland State in the Championship game. Senior Grant Benzinger, who has led the Raiders in scoring all season, was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament as freshman Loudon Love was selected to the All-Tournament Team. For the regular season, Benzinger was named First-Team, Love to the Second Team and Freshman of the Year and junior Mark Hughes was placed on the All-Defensive Team. Head coach Scott Nagy was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year.
Tennessee, 25-8, fell to Kentucky in the SEC Tournament Championship game. This is Tennessee's 21st all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and its first since 2014, when it advanced to its seventh Sweet Sixteen.
Wright State, which set a division I school record with 25 wins, also appeared in the 1993 tournament (16 seed) when they met Indiana and 2007 tournament (14 seed) against Pittsburgh. This is the first meeting in school history with the Volunteers.
