Andreea Craciun, a senior at Dr. Charles Best Secondary School in Coquitlam, British Columbia, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Wright State University and play tennis for the Raider next fall, WSU head coach Eric Burns announced today.
Cracuin, originally from Braila, Romania, was an Under 18 national quarterfinalist in 2017 after being an Under 18 and Under 16 Provincial Finalist in 2015. She was ranked in top 800 in ITF junior world rankings in 2016 and winner of two ITF doubles championships, ranking first or second in BC junior ranking in 2012-15.
"We are really excited to add Andreea to the team," Burns said. Â "She is a talented player with lots of experience and great accomplishments. Â I believe her game has lots of upside and will develop greatly. From the moment I first spoke with her it was evident that she really wanted to play Division I tennis and attend Wright State."
"In our recruiting efforts, we are looking for players who want to come here and make a difference in our program, take on the challenges and be part of leading Wright State to a Horizon League championship and NCAA bid. Â I believe Andreea will be a great addition to our team both on and off the court. We are really looking forward to working with her and I'm really excited that she chose Wright State."
Coached by Dimitri Penchev at Global Tennis Academy, Craciun has been on the honor roll all three years in high school and plans to study business or psychology at WSU.
The Raiders, 17-9 and 5-0, play at Cleveland State and Youngstown State this weekend.
