Statement of Philosophy
MAJOR PURPOSES
To design and implement activities that enhance the involvement of sporting events at Wright State University and to promote an awareness of WSU athletics within the campus and Dayton area.
To actively encourage involvement of student-athletes in campus and community outreach projects and activities.
To provide student-athletes with the opportunity to effectively communicate with the Athletic Department Administration on matters that involves the welfare of the student-athlete.
To effectively make decisions or act on any other matter relevant to the goals and responsibilities of the WSU SAAC.
REPRESENTATION, MEMBERSHIP AND CRITERIA
The SAAC shall be comprised of two representatives from each varsity team sponsored by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The SAAC will allow up to two fifth year student-athletes, to participate throughout the school year. Appropriate faculty shall serve as ex-officio members of the board.
Representatives' terms shall be throughout the course of their involvement as a student-athlete at WSU. The coaches from each varsity team shall appoint their representatives in the fall of the school year. The presidency, vice presidency, treasurer, and secretary will be filled by elections within the SAAC at the last meeting of the year. Subcommittees may be formed as needed or determined by the SAAC board members and additional meetings can and may be requested.
A representative must be in good academic standing and must attend every meeting. Only team travel or academic concerns should be considered excused absences. However, the SAAC officers do realize that other circumstances may arise. In order for an excused absence to be validated, a SAAC member must contact an officer prior to their absence. A representative who receives two unexcused absences will be reviewed and removed from the Board if necessary.
DUTIES
Representatives shall provide a communication to their respective team concerning SAAC meetings. Representatives shall serve as a voice for all Raider athletes and shall provide the Administration and or SAAC officers with as many diverse views as are represented on their respective teams.
The Board may agree upon additional duties.
MEETINGS
The first SAAC meeting of each academic year shall be called by the elected officers or by the administration. Additional meetings shall be held according to a schedule agreed upon at the first session. Guests may be invited to meet with the SAAC when appropriate.
