Wright State University's Athletics Department, on behalf of student-athletes, coaches and staff members, are proud to acknowledge the following recent accomplishments:

  • Student-athletes attained a 3.0 overall academic average for the fifth consecutive year (15 straight quarters).

  • The athletics program was among the nation's leaders in percentage of athletes competing in women's sports during the 2003-04 school year according to the Chronicle of Higher Education. In accordance with Title IX requirements, Wright State achieved one of the best proportionality rates in the country.

  • The Raider Baseball team won the 2006 Horizon League Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Corvaliss Regional.

  • The men's basketball and the men's swimming and diving teams won Horizon League Championships as the men's basketball advanced to the NCAA Tournament. DaShaun Wood was named the Player of the Year and Scott Lang was the Swimmer of the Meet. Sion Brinn was named the League's Coach of the Year while Brad Brownell was named the NABC District 10 Coach of the Year.

  • Josh Burke, a cross country runner from Casstown, OH, received the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year as he posted a cumulative GPA of 3.901 in Marketing. The Female Scholar Athlete award went to swimmer Milda Zilinskaite. The Lithuania native carries an overall GPA of 3.941 in International Studies.

  • Baseball pitcher Joe Smith was selected in the third round by the New York Mets and made the Mets' opening day roster less than a year after pitching for the Raiders.

  • Construction began and was completed on the men's and women's basketball pavilion, a state-of-the-art facility which will also house a 3,000 square foot weight room for all athletes and an eye training center. Fred Setzer and Bob Mills, who spearheaded the 3-million dollar fund raising effort for the building, were presented the annual Raider Award to recognize them for their contributions.

  • Former softball player Deborah Loewer is now a Rear Admiral and Commander of the Mine Warfare Command and reports directly to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and President George Bush.
