Brittany Persaud, a junior midfielder on the Wright State women's soccer team, has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the week of October 18-24, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Persaud (Westerville, OH/North) had a foot in all of WSU's scoring last week, recording three assists and a goal in helping the Raiders vault from sixth to claiming the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Horizon League Women's Soccer Tournament.
On Friday, Persaud sandwiched her sixth goal of the season between two assists as Wright State clinched a tournament bid with a 3-0 win over Green Bay at Alumni Field.
Two days later, Persaud helped Wright State to a 1-0 win over Milwaukee at Alumni Field, setting up Morgan Rice's goal with a corner kick. The victory was the first for Wright State over the Panthers since 2000.
Persaud leads the Raiders with six goals and nine assists and those marks rank fifth and first in the Horizon League, respectively. Persaud is also third in the league with 21 points. The nine assists also tie her for the second most by a Raider in a single season, matching the nine tallied by Mary Beth Langefeld in 1992.
Wright State (10-8, 5-3 Horizon) will open Horizon League Tournament play on Sunday, October 31, when the Raiders host #5 seed Loyola at Alumni Field starting at 1:00.
