For the second straight match, the Wright State women's soccer team fell in double overtime to a team wearing blue and gold as the Toledo Rockets scored in the first minute of the second extra period to spoil the home opener for the Raiders 2-1 Friday night at Alumni Field.
WSU opened the scoring at the 8:46 mark of the first half as Brittany Persaud sent a corner kick to Bekah Bonny in the middle. Bonny then found Morgan Butler on the right, who connected in the top left corner of the net for her third goal of the season.
Toledo, though, evened the count 15 minutes later as Megan Blake took a corner kick from Rachael Kravitz on the left side and scored her first goal of the season.
It stayed that way until 32 seconds into the second overtime when Nicole Gyurgyik's shot on a loose ball hit the left post and went into the right side of the goal, Gyurgyik's first goal of the year.
Toledo (4-2-2) outshot the Raiders 24-9 and dominated 12-1 on corner kicks. Raider goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy recorded nine saves while Rocket keeper Vicki Traven had six.
Wright State (3-4) returns to action Sunday night at Alumni Field by hosting crosstown rival Dayton at approximately 7:30, following the Raider men taking on St. Bonaventure at 5:00.
