Box Score 2 The Wright State softball team dropped a pair of games Friday at the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic in Bowling Green, Kentucky, falling to Indiana State 4-3 and to Northern Iowa 5-2.
In the first game of the day, the Raiders fell behind 2-0 as the Sycamores scored single runs in the first and fourth. The WSU offense, though, came alive with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Libby Pfeffer led off with a single to right and scored as Becka Peterson followed with a double to center. A Taylor Knore single and a throw to third resulted in two runners in scoring position and both scored on Kortney Tackett's double down the right field line.
The lead was shortlived, however, as Indiana State scored twice in the top of the seventh while the Raiders were retired in order in the bottom of the frame.
Reagan Stofcheck paced the WSU offense with two hits.
Northern Iowa scored twice in the bottom of the first in the second game of the day, only to see Wright State tie it with a pair in the top of the second. Tackett led off with a walk and after Angie Clark singled to right center, a bunt from Kristi Boreing advanced Clark and pinch-runner Kate Pfeffer into scoring position. A Jess Gorman grounder to second drove in the first run while Clark scored on a wild pitch.
It stayed that way until the Panthers plated three in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the win.
WSU starting pitcher Krystian DeWitt struck out eight in a complete-game effort.
Wright State (0-7) continues play in the tournament with two games on Saturday, taking on IUPUI at 11:30 followed by host Western Kentucky at 4:30.
