Box Score 2 The Wright State softball team split a pair of games in the final day of the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic in Bowling Green, Kentucky, defeating IUPUI 1-0 before falling to host Western Kentucky 8-5.
IUPUI pitcher Cassie Vodde threw a no-hitter against the Raiders, but WSU came up with an unearned run in the fourth for the only tally of the game. Libby Pfeffer led off with a walk and went to second on a Becka Peterson groundout. Hanna Floyd then reached on an error by the second baseman on a bunt play as pinch-runner Alexis Thomas came in to score.
Montana Wear (1-4) pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering eight hits and two walks as she struck out eight.
In the second game, Western Kentucky scored a run in the first, only to see the Raiders tie it in the third. With two outs, Angie Clark reached on an error and scored as Jess Gorman doubled to left.
Wright State then took the lead with four in the fourth. Taylor Knore had an infield hit to drive in the first run and after a RBI double from Kortney Tackett, a error and a steal of home by Tackett resulted in two more runs.
The advantage was short-lived, however, as the Hilltoppers responded with seven of their own in the bottom of the fourth.
The Raiders were scheduled to face Northern Iowa on Sunday, but that game was cancelled due to Winter Storm Titan heading to the eastern portion of the country.
Wright State (1-8) travels to Knoxville for a doubleheader against nationally-ranked Tennessee on Wednesday, March 5, at 5:00.
