Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Wright State softball team won both ends of a doubleheader at Detroit Saturday, taking the opener 6-0 and winning the nightcap 10-1.
WSU opened the scoring in game one with two runs in the first on a two-run single by Taylor Knore. Angie Clark then made it 3-0 an inning later with her second home of the season to left center.
The Raiders added two more in the fifth as Becka Peterson singled in a run and Kacie Rapshus drove in another on a fielder's choice and rounded out the scoring in the seventh on a RBI single by Kortney Tackett.
Krystian DeWitt (5-10), meanwhile, was dominant in the circle as the senior scattered six hits and did not walk a batter in striking out 11 batters, tying a career high. The 11 punchouts give DeWitt 584 for her career, moving her past Kristin Bultinck (581 from 2000-03) as WSU's all-time leader in strikeouts.
Offensively, Jess Gorman had three hits while Reagan Stofcheck and Peterson each had two.
In the second game, Hanna Floyd drove in Gorman in the first to give Wright State a quick 1-0 lead and the margin grew to 4-0 in the second thanks in part to a two-run single by Stofcheck.
WSU went up 7-0 with three more in the third, the big blow being a two-run double by Gorman and the Raiders rounded out their scoring with another three spot in the sixth, including a solo home run from Gorman, her fifth of the year.
Montana Wear (4-14) struck out seven in picking up the win. Gorman added two more hits to give her five on the day while Floyd and Rapshus also had two.
Wright State (9-25, 5-4 Horizon) goes for the series sweep Sunday with a single game starting at noon.
