@WSUVBall Comes Up Short at UIC

The Wright State volleyball was on the road again, this time at UIC Friday night where they fell 3-1 by scores of 25-12, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-18.  The Raiders are now 11-10 and 3-6 while the Flames go to 14-8 and 7-2.

Celia Powers finished with a strong night with 16 kills and only one error to hit .484 and collect five blocks.  Taylor Gibson and Teddie Sauer each had nine kills as Mallory Ladd ended with eight.  Lainey Stephenson posted 41 assists and Jenna Story had 21 digs.

First Set
The Flames jumped out to early leads and won 25-12.  Celia Powers had three kills, hitting .750.  Sauer ended with two kills as Stephenson collected six assists.

Second Set
The score stayed close early, including a tie 12 but UIC pulled away 22-15.  Though the Raiders closed the gap, the Flames won 25-21.  Powers led the way with four kills as Ladd and Gibson pitched in three each.  Stephenson had 14 assists.  The Raiders hit .343 for the set.

Third Set
The Raiders took a 4-3 lead to start which grew to 8-3 before UIC was able to score.  WSU took a 15-11 lead to cause a Flame timeout.  Up 24-18, the Raiders won the set 25-23.  WSU got four kills from both Gibson and Sauer as Powers and Alannah Lemming each had three block assists.

Fourth Set
Wright State continued with its strong play, taking a 3-1 lead.  The Flames came back to take a 12-6 lead just to see the Raiders fight back to score seven of the next nine points. UIC finished strong and won 25-18.  Powers ended the match strong hitting .357 with six kills.

Next Up
The Raiders travel north from Chicago to play at Milwaukee Saturday afternoon at 5 pm.  That match will air live on ESPN+.  Wright State will host IUPUI Friday night at 6 pm.
