@WSUVBALL Seals Win Over UIC with Strong Offense

Raiders Even League Record at 1-1

The Wright State volleyball team rebounded from a loss the night before to post their first Horizon League win as they beat UIC 3-1 in a tight match by scores of 26-24, 24-26, 25-21 and 29-27.  The Raiders collected 57 kills overall and were led by Teddie Sauer with 17 kills and six important service aces.  Alannah Lemming and Celia Powers also were in double figure kills with 10 each as Powers ended with 18 digs.  Freshman Lainey Stephenson put up 44 assists, six kills and 10 digs as Jenna Story registered 27 digs.  WSU also had 11 overall blocks and nine aces.  Wright State is now 9-5, 1-1 while the Flames fall to 8-7, 1-1.

First Set
The Raiders jumped to a 6-1 to cause a Flame timeout that allowed UIC to rebound to a 13-8 just to have WSU tie the score at 14 each.  WSU called a timeout as the Flames score three straight and responded with eight of the next 11 points to lead 22-20.  UIC tied it at 22 but the Raiders won 26-24. Lemming led the way with four kills and a block while Powers posted three kills and five digs.  WSU had 13 overall kills to 11 for the Flames.

Second Set
The Raiders ripped to a 3-0 lead and made it 7-2 with Sauer's three straight aces.  WSU jumped to a 15-8 lead and then 17-11 before UIC made a charge to close it to 17-15, and grab a tie at 23.  UIC won 26-24.  Sauer posted six of the Raiders' 23 kills as Lemming hung five.  Stephenson had 17 assists and five digs to go with three kills.  Story pitched in 12 digs with 10 for Powers.

Third Set
The set started 3-3 when the Raiders started to pull ahead to lead 13-8.   UIC stormed back to tie it at 13 as the Raiders responded with a 6-3 run for a 19-16 lead.  WSU completed the 25-21 win on a kill by Powers.  WSU hit .277 with 18 kills, including seven from Sauer and three each by Powers and Lemming.  Stephenson finished with 14 assists and an ace.

Fourth Set
WSU moved to an early 4-2 lead, but the teams battled back and forth as UIC took the 15-13 lead at the media timeout.  The Flames led 19-16, but it was another ace by Sauer that tied the score at 21 each and caused UIC to call a timeout.  The teams stayed on of each other until the Raiders won 29-27.  The offense stayed strong as the Raiders hit .255 with four kills from Powers and Sauer and 16 as a team.  WSU posted 16 digs and three blocks.  Stephenson had 13 assists and two blocks with three digs.
