Volleyball collects second sweep at Milwaukee

For the second straight match, the Wright State volleyball team swept Milwaukee on the road, winning in three sets on Tuesday to begin the season with a pair of victories.

Prior to their three-set sweeps the last two days, the last Wright State sweep in Milwaukee had been October 30, 1992.

Wright State is back in action next Monday and Tuesday, playing at home inside McLin Gym for the first time in 14 months when Northern Kentucky visits for a pair of 6 p.m. matches.

The Raiders finished Tuesday afternoon hitting .287 as a team on Tuesday, while Milwaukee managed just a .008 hitting percentage. Wright State was in total control throughout the afternoon, with only three total ties and one lead change in the match.

Megan Alders led all players with eight kills, while Teddie Sauer followed with six kills and Sam Wolf tallied five kills. Nyssa Baker had a match-high six blocks and added four kills, while Sauer finished with three services aces and Celia Powers had two of her own as the Raiders had eight service aces as a team.

Lainey Stephenson had 24 assists to lead all players, while 11 different Raiders recorded digs, paced by Jenna Story's 14.

Set 1
After Milwaukee used a service ace for the first point of the match and then led 2-1 early, the Raiders tied and took the lead on three straight Panther errors and never looked back. An ace from Powers and a kill from Alders forced a Milwaukee timeout, and the Raiders later doubled up the score at 14-7 to force a second Panther timeout. Three Alders' kills, along with kills from Wolf and Baker, helped wrap up the set.

Set 2
The Raiders jumped out to an early lead behind kills from Baker, Sauer and Alders to force a Milwaukee timeout leading 11-3. The Raiders added on with a pair of kills from Wolf, along with kills from Sauer, Stephenson, Laurissa Poling and Callie Martin before closing the set out with a service ace from Sauer.

Set 3
Baker started the set with a kill before Wolf quickly followed with a service ace to give the Raiders an early advantage. Wright State doubled the advantage behind kills from Sauer, Alders, Powers and Baker. A pair of service aces from Sauer and an ace from Powers put the Raiders at match point before a final Milwaukee error ended the afternoon.
