Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Raiders open home schedule with Monday night sweep

The Wright State volleyball team opened its home schedule inside McLin Gymnasium on Monday night, and the results stuck to the recent norm with the Raiders downing visiting Northern Kentucky 3-0.

The win moves the Raiders to 3-0 on the season with three three-set sweeps, while the Norse were playing their first contest of the season after being off last week.

Wright State and Northern Kentucky will turn around and face each other again on Tuesday as part of the Horizon League's scheduling model playing the same opponent at the same site on back-to-back days. Tuesday's match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. ET and will be streamed on either ESPN3 or ESPN+.

The Raiders have now won 16 straight regular season home matches inside McLin dating back to the last five matches of the 2018 campaign.

Monday night, Megan Alders led the way with eight kills while Teddie Sauer had seven of her own. Nyssa Baker had six kills and a match-high four blocks, with Alders and Sauer each adding two. The Raiders finished with eight service aces, paced by Sam Ott's three, while Lainey Stephenson passed out 23 assists and Jenna Story had 19 digs.

The Raiders hit .220 as a team, including .290 in the opening set, while Northern Kentucky finished at .120. Wright State had only 10 errors on the night, while the visitors recorded 21 errors over the three sets.

Set 1
The Raiders jumped ahead early on a kill from Baker to open the night and built an 11-6 lead behind a pair of service aces from Ellee Ruskaup and two kills from Sauer. After NKU pulled to within three at 16-13, the Raiders rolled off three straight points on kills from Alders and Stephenson and an ace from Celia Powers. Wright State closed the set on a 6-2 run thanks to kills from Alders, Baker, Sauer and Sam Wolf.

Set 2
Down 3-2 early, the Raiders tallied eight of the next 10 points behind three kills from Powers and a pair from Sauer. The Raiders stretched the advantage out to 21-11 thanks in part by kills from Stephenson, Callie Martin and a service ace from Ott before Sauer ended the set with another kill of her own.

Set 3
Northern Kentucky came out quickly in the set, taking a 7-3 advantage before the Raiders turned things around. Kills from Alder and Baker, along with four NKU errors, pulled Wright State to within one at 9-8. The Raiders rolled off seven straight points to gain control at 15-10 behind kills from Wolf, Stephenson and Baker. NKU fought back, pulling to within one twice – at 23-22 and 24-23 – before Baker ended the night with a final kill.
