The Wright State volleyball team stepped out of Horizon League action and played its first five-set match since November 6, 2019, ultimately falling to Dayton 3-2 at home on Tuesday night.

The two sides traded set wins all night, with the Raiders (6-1 overall, 6-0 HL) dropping the opening set 25-19 before winning set two 25-23, seeing the Flyers (2-1, 0-1 A10) take set three 25-23 and winning set four 25-23 to set up a final fifth set. The visitors took the decisive set 15-13.

Celia Powers paced Wright State with 17 kills, adding four blocks and two aces to her final stat line.
Nyssa Baker turned in 14 kills and had two blocks of her own, while
Sam Ott had 11 kills.
Lainey Stephenson passed out 49 assists, while
Jenna Story finished with 19 digs, Powers added 18 and Stephenson had 17 of her own.

The Raiders get back into conference play with a trip to Robert Morris next Monday and Tuesday, and follow that up with a pair of matches at IUPUI to begin March.

Set 1
Dayton jumped out to a 12-5 advantage early, with the Raiders eventually pulling to within two at 18-16 thanks to a 6-1 run behind kills from
Callie Martin and Alders and a pair of service aces from Powers. The visitors responded with a five-point run of their own to push to 23-16, with the Raiders answering with three quick points to pull to within four at 23-19, but the Flyers closed the set with the next two points.

Set 2
Back-and-forth early, the teams were knotted at 7-all before Dayton jumped out to a 14-9 advantage. Wright State responded with five straight points behind kills from
Teddie Sauer and Alders to tie things up. Down by three later in the set, the Raiders scored eight of the final 11 points thanks to three kills from Ott, along with kills from Sauer, Baker and Stephenson, to take the set 25-23.

Set 3
The Raiders led the set early on at 11-6 and then at 13-9 before Dayton tallied five straight points to take a one-point lead. Three straight kills from Baker gave Wright State a 17-16 advantage before the visitors tallied four straight points to jump ahead. After pulling to within one, the Raiders had back-to-back attacking errors and saw Dayton close the set with three of the final four points.

Set 4
The theme all night, this set was again point-for-point, with Dayton leading 16-14 before the Raiders rolled off three straight points behind Baker. A Dayton four-point run gave it some breathing room before the Raiders took a 23-21 lead with six of the next seven points. The visitors pulled to within one before Sauer ended the set with a final kill.

Set 5
Neither side could gain any breathing room until Dayton took a three-point lead at 7-4. The Raiders stayed within striking distance, rolling off a three-point run behind kills from Ott and Sauer to lead 13-12. The visitors used a pair of attacking errors and a kill to close the set and the night. Â
