Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball sets program record with Monday road victory

The Wright State volleyball team jumped back into Horizon League play on Monday and picked up right where it left off, taking down League newcomer Robert Morris in four sets to stay undefeated in conference play.

The Raiders (7-1, 7-0 HL) won the first, third and fourth sets Monday night as they improved to 5-0 on the road to start the season – the most consecutive wins in true road matches to begin a season in program history.

Celia Powers led the way with 15 kills, adding five blocks and a service ace, while Mallory Ladd tallied 11 kills of her own. Teddie Sauer finished just shy of a double-double with nine kills and nine blocks, while Nyssa Baker added four blocks as well.

Lainey Stephenson passed out 21 of the Raiders' 52 assists, while Wright State had three players with double-digit digs – Jenna Story (16), Ellee Ruskaup (14) and Powers (12).

Wright State and Robert Morris are back in action on Tuesday night with first serve set for 5 p.m. The match will be streamed on either ESPN3 or ESPN+.

Set 1
After trading points early on to start the night, the Raiders tallied seven of eight points behind four kills from Ladd to take a 12-6 lead. Robert Morris responded, rolling off six straight points of its own to pull within one as the teams again traded points and got knotted at 16-all. Wright State closed the set on another big run, this time tallying nine of the final 11 points behind two kills each from Powers and Sauer, along with a pair of aces from Story, wrapping the set up at 25-18.

Set 2
Neither side was able to jump ahead by more than a few points in the first half of the set, with the Raiders leading 14-13 before Robert Morris scored three of the next four points for a 16-15 advantage. Wright State answered with four of the next five points thanks to RMU attacking errors before the Colonials tallied seven of the next eight points to push to 24-20. Wright State tallied back-to-back points to pull within two, but an attacking error ended the set in the hosts' favor, 25-22.

Set 3
Four straight points thanks to kills from Sauer, Ladd and Callie Martin gave Wright State a 9-6 advantage in the set and the Raiders never looked back. They tallied eight of the next 11 points behind kills from Ladd, Powers and Sam Ott while Story also notched an ace. After a Robert Morris run pulled the hosts to within four at 20-16, Wright State saw three straight points from Martin and Powers kills and a Stephenson ace, but the Colonials fought back again. Four points from RMU pulled them to within three but the Raiders closed the set out at 25-20 thanks to an attacking error and a final kill from Baker.

Set 4
The set was back-and-forth in the early points before the Raiders gained control with a 14-1 run. Sauer and Ott each had two kills during the stretch, with Powers and Martin also in on the action as Wright State had a 16-5 advantage. The Raiders closed the set and the night on another long run, this time a 7-1 mark, behind three kills from Powers, along with kills from Ladd and Sauer.
