Don Mohr was WSU’s first director of athletics, holding that position for 10 years.

Mohr began his Wright State career in 1966 as head of the financial aid, placement, and veterans offices. He started the athletic department prior to the 1968-69 school year.  In April 1971, he was named director of athletics.  He held that position until his retirement in December 1981.

During his tenure, WSU started 14 sports, including five for women.  He also spent three seasons as the head baseball coach, leaving to devote more time to his duties as athletic director, intramural director and PE Building director.

Mohr spent four years as chairman of the Great Lakes Division II Regional Advisory committee and one year as a member of the National Selection committee.  He also was a member of the NCAA's Committee on Committees, one of the organization's most prestigious appointments.

During his time, women's swimming placed fourth in the AIAW while the men placed 21st in the NCAA.  Golf advanced to four NCAA Tournaments and placed as high as 19th.  The volleyball team won state and regional titles, advancing to the national tournament while the women's basketball team placed second in the OAISW Championships.  Cross country, wrestling and basketball also represented WSU in NCAA Tournaments.
