Paul Newman came to Wright State in 1985 as the top assistant to then athletics director Dr. Michael Cusack, and retired in the summer of 2006.

While with the Raiders, he spearheaded many initiatives, including the day-to-day activities of the athletic department, the Hall of Fame, gender equity issues, facilities, as well as sitting or chairing numerous committees.

Still active in many community activities, Newman is past president of the Fairborn Rotary and the Fairborn Chamber of Commerce.

The Edinboro, Pennsylvania native is also a member of the Edinboro University Athletics Hall of Fame and the College Sports Information Directors of America Hall of Fame.
