Originally a walk-on at Wright State, Sean Murphy is now a Major League all-star and left his mark on the Raiders. The 2014 Horizon League Freshman of the Year, he also garnered Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American honors that season. A semifinalist for Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's best collegiate catcher, in 2015, Murphy was also a Horizon League first team selection that season and earned a spot on the HL all-tournament team and the NCAA Regional Tournament Team, while his 2014 and 2016 seasons earned him Horizon League second team recognition. Part of two Horizon League regular season champions and two HL tournament championship teams, Murphy is sixth all-time in Raidergang history in career chances and career putouts. A third-round draft pick of the Oakland A's in the 2016 Draft, Murphy made his MLB debut in September 2019, connecting a home run in his first game at the highest level. A Gold Glove Award winner in 2021, Murphy was traded to the Atlanta Braves ahead of the 2023 season, eventually being named an all-star for the first time in his career and earning the start behind the plate for the National League in the Midsummer Classic.
