Stamat Bulugaris was hired by Athletic Director Don Mohr in 1973 to develop a wrestling program at Wright State. The program he created became highly successful.
Under Bulugaris the team went 138-79, only having one losing season in its inaugural season. His 1986 team ranked as high as fifth in the NCAA Division II national rankings.
Bulugaris is recognized as one of the top rules interpreters and tournament organizers in the Midwest, and also helped the University of Dayton start their wrestling program. He then went on to become head coach at Beavercreek High School for more than 20 years.
