Megan Gebbia, an assistant coach at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) the past six seasons, has accepted the position of assistant women's basketball coach at Wright State
University, announced Raider head coach Bridgett Williams today.
Gebbia will work with all facets of the basketball program, including recruiting, scouting, practice, camps, academics and player development.
While at UMBC, Gebbia helped recruit the 2001 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, who was also a Second Team All-Conference selection, and another player that was twice an all-conference
selection. Gebbia also played a part in the Retrievers finishing first in the conference in defense in 1999 and second each of the past two seasons.
Gebbia played collegiately for Towson State from 1990-94 and was the squad's MVP as a junior and a co-captain her senior year. She was the Big South Conference's Three-Point Shooter of the Year for 1993-94 and was the recipient of the Jack Hart Female Unsung Hero Award later that season.
Gebbia then served as an assistant coach for the Tigers during the 1994-95 campaign before becoming a graduate assistant at American University the following year.
"We are fortunate to have someone like Megan join our coaching staff this close to beginning of school and basketball season," said Williams. "She has a great deal of Division I experience on and
off the court and will be an immediate asset to our program."
Gebbia, who earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Towson State in 1994, was part of the student-athlete academic advisory committee her senior year.
The regular-season opener for the Raiders is on Friday, November 22, as Wright State travels to defending national champion Connecticut.
