Men Fall at UW-Green Bay

Despite 20 points from Vernard Hollins, the Wright State men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 76-65 setback at UW-Green Bay.
The Phoenix broke open a 22-all tie with a 13-2 run and took a 38-26 advantage into the halftime break. WSU then came as close as seven twice in the second half before UWGB pulled away with a 21-9 run over a nine-minute span to make it 62-42 with 7:30 to play.
Wright State shot 41 percent to Green Bay's 42 percent and the Raiders made eight of 20 from three-point range and 15 of 22 from the foul line, but the Phoenix made 12 of 29 from beyond the arc and held a 43-31 rebounding advantage, resulting in a 14-5 margin in second-chance points.
Hollins led the Raiders with 20 points while Seth Doliboa had 12 and DaShaun Wood 10.
Kevin Hughes paced UW-Green Bay (17-10, 11-5 Horizon) with 23 points while Javier Mendiburu posted the first triple-double in team history with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists off the bench. Matt Rohde had 15 and Brandon Morris 10.
Wright State, now 14-13 overall and 10-6 in the Horizon League, is the fifth seed for the upcoming League Tournament and will take on Loyola in the opening round at the Nutter Center on Tuesday, March 2, at 7:30.
