The Wright State softball team split a pair of games on the first day of the Buzz Classic Friday at Woodstock, Georgia, falling to Middle Tennessee 9-0 in the opener before picking up its first win of the season by rallying for a 3-2 decision over Purdue.

WSU managed just two hits against Middle Tennessee starter Lindsey Vander Lugt as Kristen Farley had an infield single in the first and Bridget Henry had a hit in the second.

The Blue Raiders scored three in the first and then broke the game open with four in the third and two more in the fifth.

Wright State again faced an early deficit against Purdue as the Boilermakers scored twice in the bottom of the third. The Raiders, though, tied the game in the top of the fourth as Jherica Williams led off with a single and, two outs later, scored as Allison Cox hit her third home run of the season to left center.

The Raiders plated what turned out to be the winning run in the seventh. Cox started the frame with a double to right center and after Mary Jane D'Arcy bunted pinch-runner Patti Scherer to third, Farley delivered a hit to right to knock in Scherer with the go-ahead run.

It was then left to Cox to close it out and she did just that as she retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to pick up her first collegiate win. The freshman allowed just five hits and struck out six in the complete-game effort.

Wright State, now 1-7 on the season, continues play at the Buzz Classic Saturday with two more games, starting with San Jose State at 10 am and Winthrop at 7:00.
