The Wright State softball team split a Horizon League doubleheader at Detroit Thursday afternoon, dropping the first game 4-1 before holding on to a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.

All of the Detroit offense came via the home run in the opener as Courtney Gill had a two-run shot in the second followed by solo homers from Jacqueline Nortman in the fifth and Jessica Barclay in the sixth.

The Raiders cut the margin to 4-1 in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to Allison Cox, but could get no closer as WSU stranded 11 runners in the contest.

The Titans again took the early lead in game two as a Barclay double in the first made it 1-0, but the Raiders tied it with a run in the fourth. Jacqueline Macy led off with a single through the left side and, after a pair of fielder's choices, Malerie Klingler kept the inning alive with a hit to left. Michelle Logan then delivered a hit to left to drive in Jamie Perkins with the tying run.

It stayed that way until the sixth when, with one out, Kristen Farley doubled to center and Perkins followed with a two-run home run to center, her third of the season.

Detroit, however, loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh and drew to within one at 3-2 on a sacrifice fly from Kaleigh Rafter that also advanced the other two runners to second and third.

Allison Cox (13-13), though, preserved the win by striking out Michelle Baggio and inducing Barclay to ground back to the circle for the final out. Cox struck out six and scatter seven hits in the complete-game effort.

Macy had four hits altogether, including three in the first game, to pace the Raider offense while Farley collected three hits, two in the second game, and Jherica Williams also had three hits, all in the nightcap.

Wright State, now 20-31 overall and 7-8 in the Horizon League, closes out the regular season this weekend with a three-game League series at home against UIC, starting with a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00.
