Horizon League Tournament Bracket (PDF)
For the second straight year, Wright State opens with Cleveland State when the Raiders begins play in the 2007 Horizon League Softball Championship on Thursday, May 10, at 9 a.m. WSU is seeded seventh in the double-elimination tournament, which is being played at CSU's Viking Field
Wright State (21-33, 8-10 Horizon League) and Cleveland State (29-12, 8-6) faced each other in Cleveland on April 14, with the Raiders taking both ends of a doubleheader, winning 8-5 in the opener and 4-3 in the second game. The third game of the series, set for the following day, was canceled due to cold weather.
Despite being seeded seventh, WSU has history on its side in regards to facing Cleveland State and playing at Viking Field. The Raiders won the first-round matchup between the two teams last season 6-3 in Canfield, Ohio, and, counting this year's twinbill sweep, Wright State has won eight of its last nine games played at Viking Field. That streak includes a 4-0 mark in winning the 2003 Horizon League Tournament title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
A win over Cleveland State would send the Raiders against the winner of the UW-Green Bay-Butler game at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 11. The loser of the WSU-CSU game will play the loser of the UW-Green Bay-Butler contest at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
In other first-round matchups, #3 UW-Green Bay (17-21, 9-7) faces #6 Butler (24-22, 7-8) at 11 a.m., #4 UIC (18-31, 8-7) plays #5 Youngstown State (16-20, 7-7) at 1 p.m. and #1 Loyola (20-19, 14-5) takes on #8 Detroit (11-29, 3-14) at 4 p.m. The tournament continues through Saturday, May 12, with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
