
Swimming and Diving Competes at Day One of Horizon League Championships

The Wright State swimming and diving programs opened up competition at the Horizon League Championships Wednesday in Brown Deer, Wisconsin.
Molley Pipkorn broke the school record in the 1000 free, while the men's squad set a pair of relay records and one individual school record on the day.
On the men's side, Wright State got started on a good note with a second place showing in the 200 free relay. The team of Danny Munoz, Hermanus Botha, T.J. Collins and Zach Fisher set a new school record in the event with a time of 1:20.06.
Nathan Demchuk followed that with a second place finish in the 1000 free – breaking his own school record in the process. Demchuk finished with a time of 9:16.70, besting his school mark by two seconds.
The second relay event of the evening watched the Raiders best another school record, finishing fourth in the 200 medley relay. Scott Bey, Munoz, Fisher and Collins swam a 1:30.72 in the event, topping the old record of 1:31.16.
The women's squad opened up the meet with a near school-record in the 200 free relay, placing second to Green Bay in the event. The team of Pipkorn, Kelsey Cooper, Marta Kokot and Erin Stevning finished with a time of 1:34.87, missing the school record by .01-seconds.
Pipkron posted a season-best time of 10:10.73 in the 1000 free, setting a new school record in the event by more than six seconds, but placed second behind defending champion Danielle Wenger of Milwaukee.
The final swimming event of the night for the women almost saw another school record fall, missing this one by just .08-seconds. Cooper, Kim Martella, Candace Thornburg and Stevning placed second in the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:44.67 to place second to Green Bay.
Stevi DiMasso ended the day by placing seventh in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 199.75.
