Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score
The Wright State softball team swept a home doubleheader from Eastern Michigan Tuesday afternoon, winning the first game 5-1 before rallying from a 6-1 deficit in the nightcap with three in the fourth and four in the seventh to win 8-7.
Kristen Bradshaw started the scoring in the opener with a solo home run to center in the third and after the Eagles tied it with an unearned run in the fourth, WSU went back in front to stay with three runs in its half of the frame.
The Raiders loaded the bases as Lindsay Barrett singled, China Frost reached on a fielder's choice and Jamie Perkins walked. Pinch-runner Michelle Baker scored as pinch-hitter Allison Cox was hit by a pitch, Louie Haney followed with a walk to force in another run and the final run of the inning came in as Bradshaw hit into a force out at third.
Wright State rounded out the scoring in the sixth as Bradshaw cracked her second home run of the game and third of this season, this time to left center.
Ashleigh Jackson (6-4) earned the win as she went the first 4.1 innings while Sharon Palma picked up her first save of the year by going the final 2.2 innings, allowing no hits with three strikeouts.
A three-run home run to center off the bat of Jenny Scherer gave the Eagles a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two and after the Raiders answered with a run in their half of the stanza on a Bradshaw sacrifice fly, EMU extended the lead to 6-1 with three more in the third.
WSU, though, started its comeback with three of its own in the fourth. A Jackson two-run double accounted for the first two runs with Perkins driving in the third with a single in the hole to shortstop, scoring Baker.
The Eagles led 7-4 by adding an unearned run in the seventh and looked to be in position to gain a split as the Raiders were down to their final out still down two. Perkins reached on an error to start the frame and after going to second on a groundout, advanced to third on a Haney hit to center. Bradshaw then had a sacrifice fly to plate Perkins, but WSU was now down to its final out with a runner on first and still down 7-5.
Justine Shilt, however, kept the rally alive with a hit up the middle and Jackson followed with a short single to center that drove in Haney, allowed Shilt to advance to third and Jackson to second on the throw. Cox then capped off the comeback and gave the Raiders the win with a two-run double to the gap in left center
Jackson (7-4) picked up her second win of the day as she allowed no earned run in three innings of relief. Offensively, Perkins and Shilt each had three hits while Briauna Birl, Jackson and Cox each had two.
Wright State (12-12) faces another Mid-American Conference opponent on Wednesday as the Raiders travel to Athens to take on the Ohio Bobcats for a 2:00 doubleheader.
