The Wright State softball team saw its seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end in the first game as Loyola recorded a 10-2 win, but the Raiders bounced back with a 6-4 decision in the nightcap to split the Horizon League doubleheader with the Ramblers Friday afternoon at the WSU Softball Field.

Loyola took control in the first game right from the start as Brooke Andresen singled to right field and then made it to third on an error and a passed ball. She then scored on a deep sacrifice fly to put the Ramblers in front 1-0.

Wright State then tied the game as 1-1 in the bottom half of the first when Kristen Bradshaw reached base on a single and went to second on a wild pitch. Bradshaw made it to third on a sacrifice bunt by China Frost and scored on a Jamie Perkins sacrifice fly.

The Ramblers took the lead back in the top half of the second when Jenna Grim hit a solo homerun to put the score at 2-1. They then extended their lead to 4-1 in the third as Stephanie Cihlar reached on a bunt single and ended up scoring on a throwing error. Angie Funston, who reached base on the throwing error, came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Jacqueline Grim.

A Kristen Bradshaw single drove in Briauna Birl, who doubled, to make 4-2 in the third, but that would be all the closer the Raiders would get.

In the fourth, the Ramblers batted through their lineup and scored five runs to make it a 9-2 contest. Loyola then tacked on their 10th run in the fifth.

Game two was a back and forth battle as, like the first game, the Ramblers struck first. After reaching base on a fielder's choice, Funston stole second, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom half of the inning Wright State scored a run of their own. Bradshaw ripped a single and then advanced to second on a Frost bunt single. Jamie Perkins then brought in Bradshaw with an RBI single to make the score 1-1.

The tie was short-lived as Loyola retook the lead in the top of the third. Ellen Kresl bunted her way on base and went to second on a sacrifice. She then came around to score on a fielding error that allowed Stephanie Chilar to go to second. Chilar later scored on a throwing error to give the Ramblers a 3-1 lead.

But the Raiders took the lead back in style in the bottom half of the third. Bradshaw led the inning off with a double and Frost bunted her way onto first. That's when Perkins came to the plate and made it a 4-3 game with one swing of the bat as she hit a three-run home run to left to put WSU in the lead.

The Ramblers were able to tie game at 4-4 in the fourth when Jenna Grim was walked and came around to score on a Medrud single.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, the Raiders had a chance to retake the lead, but were unable to do so. The bottom of the fifth inning, though, was a different story.

After hits by Justine Shilt and Lindsay Barrett, pinch-runner Michelle Baker came around to score on a double by Mollie Berry to give Wright State a 5-4 lead.

The Raiders then added on another run in the sixth after Louie Haney doubled, Allison Cox hit a double of her own.

Loyola made a run in the bottom of the seventh, loading up the bases with two outs. But a running catch in foul territory by third basemen Haney ended the game and gave Wright State the win.

Allison Cox (3-0) earned the win, pitching 3.1 innings and gave up just two hits on the day.

Wright State (13-16-1, 4-1 Horizon) will finish up the three-game series against the Ramblers on Saturday, April 3, at 10:30. The game was originally scheduled for 1:00, but has been moved up due to a forecast of rain in the afternoon.
