Senior men's swimmer Hans Roser looks to return to the pinnacle of his success in his senior season.
In 2007-08, Hans' freshman season, Wright State produced a Horizon League Championship for the men's swimming and diving team. The title had come at the tail end of a remarkable run; lead by head coach Sion Brinn, the WSU men's team brought home conference titles in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008.
Hans remembers back on that time during his Wright State life very fondly.
"Winning the conference my freshman year, was my best time being here, there was so much excitement going on," said Roser. "It's not like the last two years have been a let-down or anything, but it's definitely nice coming home to a championship ring."
This year's team is working extremely hard to return to its past glory years as a new decade begins in 2011.
A native of Ithaca, New York. Roser's high school career included such achievements as being named Team Most Valuable Player as a senior and team captain as a junior and senior. He earned All American honors in the 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay.
During his Wright State career, Hans has competed in the Horizon League Championships each year. Hans has performed in 10 events: the 100 yard butterfly, the 50, 100, 200 breaststrokes, the 100, 200, 400 yard individual medleys, the 200 freestyle and the 200 and 400 medley relay.
This season Roser has performed excellently. In December, during the Miami Invitational, he recorded top team times in four events. In the 100 breaststroke (57.95), and the 200 breaststroke (2:04.19), 200 IM (1:58.19), 400 IM (4:10.34), in addition a second place team time in the 100 butterfly (53.96).
After graduation, Hans plans to either return to his hometown of New York or move to Texas. Hans says that he will miss his time with the teammates the most.
"What I will miss most about Wright State is my teammates and hanging out with them; we are a pretty close knit group," said Roser. "I'd like to thank all my coaching staff I've had here in Paul Mangen, Janelle Atkinson Wignall, Liyi Wang and Kyle Oaks along with Becky Bower and the training staff."
