Sharon Palma, who wrapped up a stellar three-year softball career with Wright State in 2010, has signed with the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League.
The Racers started their season over the weekend, with Palma pitching an inning of relief on Sunday (June 12) against the NPF Diamonds, striking out one. The NPF season continues through August.
Palma is second on the Wright State all-time list in wins with 46 and third in strikeouts with 360. She also appears in the Raider Top 10 in appearances (2nd with 120), starts (2nd with 93), complete games (9th with 29) and innings pitched (3rd with 504).
The Most Valuable Player of the 2008 Horizon League Tournament in Chicago, Palma helped lead WSU to NCAA appearances in 2008 and 2010. She was the winning pitcher in the 2010 championship game at Cleveland State and against Illinois State the following week at the NCAA Regionals in Ann Arbor. Palma was also selected Second Team All-Horizon League in 2008 and 2009.
Palma is the second Wright State player to ever sign with the Racers, joining catcher/outfielder Jherica Williams, who was part of the team in 2008.
