
Softball Signs Six for 2014

The Wright State softball program has received six national letters of intent during the fall signing period, announced head coach Lynn Curylo. Joining the Raiders for the 2014 season are outfielder Ashton Salyers, infielder Alexis Mayle, outfielder Rachael Oakley, catcher Kate Pfeffer, infielder Libby Pfeffer and infielder Alexis Thomas.
Salyers (Grove City, OH/Grove City) was a First Team All-Ohio
selection in 2012 as she hit .549 for the Greyhounds with a .711
slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. She also earned
First Team All-Metro and All-Central District honors and was named as
the Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year.
As a sophomore, Salyers was an Honorable Mention All-Central District performer as well as being chosen Special Mention All-Metro, Second Team All-OCC and to the OCC All-Star Select Team. A career .507 hitter, she played at Dunbar High School in Lexington, Kentucky, as a eighth grader and a freshman, she set the school's single-season hit record with 64 in 2010 and was named all-city and all-district as well as being selected to the district and region all-tournament teams.
Mayle (Columbus, OH/Bishop Watterson) competed for the Eagles last season after playing at Bishop Ready High School her freshman and sophomore years. A three-time All-Central District and All-Central Catholic League honoree, she was named to the district's Underclassmen All-Star Team in 2012 as well as being selected as the team MVP and defensive MVP.
Mayle, who has led her high school team in home runs, RBI and slugging percentage all three years, was part of the Doom 95 team that won the 16U ASA state championship and is currently playing for the 18U Miami Valley Xpress Gold.
Oakley (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) was named Second Team All-State, All-Southwest District and as the Girls Greater Cincinnati League's Player of the Year in 2012 as she hit .600 with 37 runs scored, 34 stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .622. She was also selected All-City by the Cincinnati Enquirer as the Mohawks finished 17-6 overall and 9-1 in winning the league.As a sophomore, Oakley hit. 513 with 28 runs scored and 23 stolen bases as she received First Team All-GGCL and All-Metro honors and hit .382 with 18 runs scored and 20 stolen bases as a freshman in being named Second Team All-League and All-Metro.
Kate Pfeffer (Clayton, OH/Northmont) has been a Second Team All-Greater Western Ohio Conference selection the last two seasons after being named Special Mention as a freshman. She drove in 15 and scored 13 times in 2012 as the T-Bolts won the GWOC Central Division with a 10-0 record and and advanced to the district finals in finishing 25-4 overall.
Off the field, Kate has been recognized as a Scholar-Athlete throughout high school and is a member of the National Honor Society. She was also selected to the 2012 Coaches Association All-Academic Team and has been a Rae Burick Women in Sports Award honoree the past two years.
Libby Pfeffer (Clayton, OH/Northmont), Kate's twin sister, was a First Team All-State selection and the GWOC Central Division Player of the Year in 2012 as she hit. 539 with six home runs and 39 RBI along with 11 doubles and 28 runs scored. Named Honorable Mention All-State and First Team All-GWOC as a sophomore and Second Team as a freshman, Libby holds the Northmont single-season records for hits, doubles and home runs.
Off the field, Libby has also been recognized as a Scholar-Athlete throughout high school and was a Rae Burick Women in Sports Award honoree in 2012.
Thomas (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) was named Honorable Mention All-State, All-Northeast District, First Team All-Lorain County and First Team All-Southwestern Conference in 2012 as she hit .478 with eight home runs and 37 RBI for the Shoregals. She hit .426 with six home runs and 22 RBI as a sophomore as she was selected honorable mention all-district and received all-county and all-conference recognition. As a freshman, she was First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-County as she hit .406 with three home runs and 16 RBI.
"This class is filled with a great mix of speed and power," said Curylo. "They are all fierce competitors that get it done on the field, in the classroom and in the community."
Wright State opens the 2013 regular season at the Stacy Winsberg Invitational in Los Angeles February 8-10 as the Raiders face Long Beach State, Texas A&M, McNeese and host UCLA. The home opener is set for Thursday, March 21, as WSU hosts Bowling Green in a 3:00 doubleheader.
