Softball Drops Pair to Valparaiso

Wright State dropped a pair of games to Horizon League leader Valparaiso Wednesday at the WSU Softball Field, falling 4-2 in the opener and 10-0 in the nightcap.
The Raiders took an early 1-0 lead in the opener with a run in the second as Kortney Tackett tripled to right center to drive in Chelsea Archer, who reached on a fielder's choice.
It stayed that way until the Crusaders tied it with a run in the fifth and then went in front with two in the sixth. WSU took advantage of an error to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth, but could get no closer as Valpo added an insurance run in the seventh.
Game two was scoreless until Valparaiso scored three in the fourth. The Crusaders added another in the fifth and then broke it open with six in the sixth, the big blow being a grand slam to left off the bat of Jordan Rutkowski.
Wright State (17-22, 5-6 Horizon) and Valparaiso (24-10, 8-0 Horizon) wrap up the series with a single game Thursday at 3:00.
