Softball Splits at Youngstown State

It was a case of extremes for the Wright State softball team Sunday at Youngstown State as after run-ruling the Penguins 8-0 in the opener, the tables were turned in the second game in being run-ruled 10-0.
WSU scored a run in the first inning of game one on a RBI single by Kacie Rapshus and then broke it open with four more runs in the second. A Kortney Tackett single along with an error and a fielder's choice loaded the bases for Kristi Boreing, who smacked a grand slam home run over the fence in right center, the first home run of her college career.
The Raiders then forced the run-rule with three in the fifth as Rapshus had another RBI single and the other two runs coming in on errors.
Krystian DeWitt (13-22) picked up the win in allowing just two hits while striking out eight. Boreing finished with three hits, four RBI and two runs scored while Rapshus had two hits and two RBI and Tackett scored twice.
In the second game, the Penguins scored a run in the first and then took advantage of five Raider errors in scoring six times in the third. YSU rounded out the scoring with three more in the fourth.
All three games in the weekend series were run-rule decisions as YSU took the opener 10-2 on Saturday.
Wright State (20-26, 8-10 Horizon) heads to Marshall for a 2:00 doubleheader on Wednesday before returning home for a key three-game set against Green Bay over the weekend.
