Indianapolis – Oakland University today officially announced it will join the Horizon League for all sports, starting July 1, 2013.
The Grizzlies have been members of the Summit League (formerly Mid-Continent Conference) since joining the Division I ranks in 1997-98. During that time, Oakland has captured 24 regular-season titles, 47 league tournament titles and appeared in 35 NCAA Tournaments. OU men's basketball has advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times (2005, 2010 and 2011).
“We are very excited about the addition of Oakland, and I think they will be a great fit,” Raider Director of Athletics Bob Grant said. “Their success over the years has certainly caught our attention; it'll be fun to compete against them as a fellow league member.”
Oakland sponsors 16 sports overall, including baseball. For more information, go to www.ougrizzlies.com and www.horizonleague.org.
