Wright State University swimming and diving individuals started the 2015 AT&T Winter Nationals with an impressive swim in Federal Way, Washington, Thursday as the Raiders' two entries saw Mitchell Stover in the 200 IM and Lucas Osgood in the 50 Free.
Stover's personal record of 2:04.29. Of greater note, Stover achieved his first U.S. Olympic Trial cut, qualifying him for one of the fastest meets in the world which will take place in Omaha, Nebraska, this summer (June 26 – July 3).
Osgood was the other swim of the day for the Raiders. He collected his personal best with a time of 24.21 and followed that up with an improvement in a time trial only minutes later where he went 24.16.
Stover's preliminary swim placed him 22nd after the morning session allowed him to compete at night among the top 24. His final placing was 23rd on the evening.
In Friday's session, Stover will swim the 400 IM and the 100 Backstroke while Matt Dassow will race in the 100 Butterfly. Sebastian Koller will compete in the 100 Breaststroke. Lastly, Stover and Jack Fergus will swim the 100 Backstroke to conclude the day two preliminary.
“It's a great opportunity to be at this meet," WSU head coach Kyle Oaks said. "I am very happy for Mitchell and proud to share in his success today. I think all our national qualifiers are prepared to have some great swims, and tomorrow's session should be a lot of fun given all our entries. We have a great team, and this group is an excellent example of the type of athlete we're developing within our program. I am excited for some more swimming; our kids make it a lot of fun!”
The Raiders will continue the meet tomorrow when the preliminaries begin at noon Eastern. Results for the sessions can be found at usaswimming.org on the events page for the Winter Nationals. There is also online streaming of the meet, and the finals are airing on NBC Sports.
