Softball Drops Pair in Opening Day of Sand Dollar Classic

The Wright State softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday in the opening day of the Sand Dollar Classic at Gulf Shores, Alabama. The Raiders fell 12-3 to both Murray State and Eastern Kentucky.
In the opener, Murray State scored twice in both the first and third innings before breaking the game open with eight in the fourth. WSU picked up a run in the third and then added two more in the fifth on a two-run home run by Jess Gorman, her second of the season.
Gorman had two hits and two runs scored to pace the Raider offense.
In the second game, Eastern Kentucky scored three times in the first before Wright State answered with a pair in its half of the inning. Gorman led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a Kaitlyn Kite hit to center. Pinch-runner Rachael Oakley followed with a steal and came in to score as Reagan Stofcheck singled to center, the first of two hits in the game for the senior third baseman.
The Colonels, however, added three more runs in the second, one more in the third and five more in the sixth. Wright State's final run came ini the fifth as Libby Pfeffer led off with her first home run of the year to left.
Wright State (0-7) wraps up tournament play on Sunday with two games, taking on Belmont at 11:00 Eastern followed by a rematch with Murray State at 1:30 Dayton time.
