
Raider Sports in Action

Along with men's and women's soccer, volleyball, cross country and golf, the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will hit the pool this week as well.
Men's Soccer
The men's soccer team, after hosting two Horizon League teams last week, will travel to UIC Saturday for a 2 pm game.
WSU played two double overtime games, losing to Northern Kentucky 1-0 and tying Green Bay 0-0. Peguy Ngatcha continues to lead Wright State with five goals and two assists. Goalie Tyler Blackmer has posted a goals against average of 0.53 with 27 saves and five shutouts.
The Raiders, 6-2-1 and 1-1-1, beat UIC at home a year ago 2-1 on goals by Jake Stovall and Ngatcha. The Flames are currently 4-3-2 and 1-0-1 as Jorge Alvarez leads the team with three goals and two assists.
Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team will head to UIC as well for a game Saturday at 8 pm after losing a tight match to Milwaukee at home last Saturday 1-0.
Natalie Sedlock continues to lead the Raiders with three goals with six others posting one goal each. Goalie Halle Pyle boasts a 0.89 goals against average with 36 saves in eight games. The Raiders are currently 3-5-1 and 0-1-1.
UIC, 2-7-1 and 0-1, most recently lost 2-0 to Northern Kentucky and will play at Valparaiso before hosting WSU. Olivia Everin leads the Flames with two goals with four others sitting with one goal each. The Raiders beat UIC last year at home 2-0.
Volleyball
The volleyball team will hit the road this weekend with matches at Milwaukee on Friday and at Green Bay on Saturday.
The Raiders, 11-6 and 0-2, are coming off two extremely tight losses to UIC and Valpo last weekend. Against Valpo Saturday, Katie Klusman paced WSU with a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs, her sixth consecutive double-double and ninth of the season overall, while Marisa Aiello had nine kills and Haley Garr and Megan Hopkins eight each. Maddie Lohmeier dished out 36 assists and Jessie Thornton had 15 digs.
WSU will next play at home October 6 against new league foe Northern Kentucky at 7 pm. Both matches this week will be shown on ESPN3.
Cross Country
The men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Friday at Cedarville University.
The women's cross country team placed fifth while the men finished seventh at the Cedarville Friendship Invitational held at the Elvin R. King Course two weeks ago. In the 5K race, the women were paced by junior Alexandra Brown's 13th place finish with a time of 19:14. In the 8K race, the men were led by senior Kameron Powell, who placed 23rd overall with a time of 27:02
Golf
The golf team continues the fall schedule as it will play at the Northern Kentucky Classic Sunday and Monday.
The golf team finished fourth at the Murray State Invitational was played Tuesday at the Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Kentucky. The Raiders were led by Ryan Wenzler, who tied for fourth overall with scores of 73-73-70=216.
Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving
The men's and women's swimming & diving teams will start their season Sunday at the Butler Invitational in Indianapolis against host Butler, Saint Louis and Evansville.
The upcoming 2015-16 schedule will certainly provide some new challenges and opportunities for the Raider squads. They will return a strong group of upperclassmen led by men's seniors Csongor Bajnoczki, Wiehan Boshoff, Matt Dassow, Nathan Meyer, Luke Osgood, Alfred Pappe, Clement Quilliec, and Merritt Sparks, as well as the women's seniors Alyssa Athmer, Kayla Fearrin, Ashley Miller, Samantha Miller, and Samantha TenEyck. With the addition of 12 newcomers, the team will be poised to continue its trend of growth and improvement, but they will also face some very high levels of competition.
