
WSU Athletics Annual Awards

The 2017-18 awards winners for each Wright State winner and for the Athletics Department were announced today.
Baseball player Gabe Snyder and track athlete Maria Heckman received the Don Mohr Male Athlete of the Year and the Peg Wynkoop Female Athlete of the Year Awards. Ryan Dunn of cross country, Brinna Price of soccer, Jamie Krupp of swimming and Heckman each received the Dr. Carl Benner Scholar-Athlete Awards for the highest grade point average for a junior or senior. Head men's basketball coach Scott Nagy was voted by the head coaches as the Terry Hall Coach of the Year while Macey Gunther of the softball team received the Dr. Michael J. Cusack LifeSkills Award.
Snyder (Millersburg, OH/West Holmes), a 6-5 first baseman recently drafted by the Minnesota Twins, helped lead the Raiders to the 2018 Horizon League Championship and the NCAA Tournament by hitting .359 with 15 home runs, 20 doubles, 17 steals and 73 RBI while setting new WSU career records with 44 round trippers and 218 RBI.Â
Heckman (Minster, OH/Minster) was the indoor track pole vault champions and runner up at the outdoor meet while being named to the First Team All-League. She set the new school record while being named to the All-Academic Team and was named the League Athlete of the Week in February.
Nagy, named the NABC Region Coach of the Year in his second year at WSU, led the Raiders to a WSU Division I record 25 wins and the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007. The Raiders advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they fell to Tennessee. The 2018 Horizon League Coach of the Year led South Dakota State to three NCAA Tournaments prior to coming to Wright State.
