The banner year for Wright State student-athletes continues. Today, the NCAA has released the APR numbers for all of the Wright State athletic programs. Baseball, Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Women's Cross Country, Softball, Women's Tennis and Women's Volleyball all posted multi-year APR scores higher than national Division I average for their respective sport. Last week, the NCAA recognized a department record four programs for having a multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) ranking in the top 10% of their respective sport. The four‐year rates include student‐athletes who were in school between the 2014‐15 and 2017‐18 academic years.
In addition to the remarkable multi-year rate, eight teams posted a perfect single-year APR score for 2017-18. Baseball, Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Women's Cross Country, Softball, Women's Tennis and Women's Volleyball were all perfect. As a department, Wright State averaged a single year APR score of 987 out of 1000 for the 2017-18 academic year.
The APR, created to provide more of a real‐time measurement of academic success than graduation rates offer, is a team‐based metric where scholarship student‐athletes earn one point each term for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating.
"These numbers are truly impressive. It is easy to forget with all of the athletic success we have seen on the playing field, that our athletes are first and foremost, students," said Trevor Doll, associate athletics director. "I would also be remiss if I did not acknowledge the tireless work put in by our academic staff to help our student-athletes achieve their goals in the classroom."
On Saturday, May 4th, Wright State University graduated 38 of its student-athletes, making for a total of 55 student-athletes having graduated for 2018-19 academic year.
