NCAA Division I Council approves Nov. 25 start date for men’s and women’s basketball
9/16/2020 7:58:00 PM | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division I Council approved moving the first contest date in Division I men's and women's basketball to November 25 for the 2020-21 season. Full practices can begin on October 14.
No exhibition games or closed scrimmages will be allowed before that date. Moving the start date back from November 10 is intended to have contests begin when at least three-quarters of Division I schools will have concluded their fall terms or moved remaining instruction and exams online, creating a more controlled and less populated campus environment that may reduce the risk of COVID-19 that can occur between student-athletes and the broader student body population, the Division I Men's and Women's Oversight Committees said.
More information from the NCAA Division I Council on the announcement can be found here.

The Wright State University Department of Athletics released the following statements:
Director of Athletics Bob Grant: "Today's vote by the NCAA Division I Council is the starting point for planning. Now that the November 25 date has been determined, the Horizon League and others can begin crafting what the 2020-21 basketball seasons will look like. We'll continue to move forward – always keeping the health and safety of our student-athletes as our main priority."
Head Men's Basketball Coach Scott Nagy: "We are thankful to receive clarity from the NCAA about an official start date. We know there is still a lot of work to be done but we are excited and optimistic about the upcoming season."
Head Women's Basketball Coach Katrina Merriweather: "We are thankful for the opportunity to have a season and we look forward to growing together as a team on and off the court. We appreciate all the hard work and sacrifices that so many have made for this to be possible and we intend on showing our appreciation by making everyone proud."
