Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sizer scores twice in tie at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLISMarcella Sizer's two-goal performance helped the Wright State women's soccer program to a 2-2 tie at IUPUI on Sunday afternoon at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.

The Raiders (6-4, 3-0-1) remained unbeaten in Horizon League play with their first tie of the season. IUPUI's record changed to 5-1-5 overall and 1-2-1 in the conference.

Marcella Sizer led Wright State in the draw with an equalizer in both halves, the second multi-goal game in her collegiate career. Amber Branum tallied an assist on Sizer's first goal, while Lauren Borchert had a team-leading four shots, including two on frame.

Goalkeeper Jessika Seward finished with five saves over 90 minutes, allowing two goals in the opening half. Olivia Mace and Kaylin Helinski joined Seward in playing the entirety of the match.

The Jaguars gained an early edge in the conference matchup, as Maya Lacognato scored on an empty goal in the 20th minute of the opening half.

The Raiders swayed the momentum in the 34th minute thanks to Sizer's equalizer off an assist from Branum. However, IUPUI took its lead back five minutes later in the 40th minute with a goal off the foot of Emma Antoine. The score stayed at 2-1 in favor of the home squad for the remainder of the first half.

IUPUI was in control for most of the first half, besting the Raiders in overall shots (10-6) and corner kicks (6-3). Borchert had her fair share of opportunities in the period with a team-high three shots, including two on goal.

Wright State struggled to gain momentum in the second half with five shots, none on-target. Meanwhile, Seward held the Jaguars scoreless with four saves in the final 45 minutes.

Trailing 2-1, Sizer earned a penalty kick in the 86th minute, as she was fouled by an IUPUI defender near goal in the penalty area. She then converted on the penalty kick, tying the game at 2-all. IUPUI made one last push with a shot on goal at the 89-minute mark. However, Seward corralled the save to preserve the tie.

The Raiders will return to action against Cleveland State on Saturday, October 1, at Alumni Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
