INDIANAPOLIS — Wright State's Alex McCarty was named to the 2023 Valeo Cross Country All-Academic Team, as the conference office announced the list voted on by the League's faculty athletics representatives.Â
To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution (excluding summer school), having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
McCarty earned First Team All-League honors for the first time in his Raider career after placing seventh with a personal record time of 24:34.9 in the 8,000-meter run at the 2023 Horizon League Cross Country Championship. The Eaton, Ohio native totaled four top-10 finishes during the cross country season, including a third-place mark in the 8K (24:38.0) at the Live in Lou Classic. He had a PR time of 30:59.4 in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, becoming just the third individual in program history to break 31 minutes in the race.
