
Three Raiders named to Horizon League All-Academic Team

INDIANAPOLIS — Wright State's Alex McCarty, Kaitlyn Miller, and Melissa Siler were named to the Valeo Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic Team, as the conference office announced the list voted on by the League's faculty athletics representatives.Â
To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution (excluding summer school), having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
McCarty is coming off a strong performance at the Horizon League Outdoor Championship, as he placed fifth overall in the 10,000-meter run (30:17.71) and 14th in the 5,000-meter run (14:57.65). He finished the outdoor season with 11 top-10 finishes, including two victories. The Nursing major was named to the 2023 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Team and has been named to the HL Honor Roll for three consecutive semesters.Â
Miller raced to second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:57.84) and sixth in the 5,000-meter run at the HL Outdoor Championship. She possessed top-10 conference times in both events while closing the outdoor season with 13 top-10 marks. The Middle Childhood Education major has earned HL Honor Roll accolades three semesters in a row.Â
Siler collected individual podium finishes in the heptathlon (7th, 3,965 pts) and javelin throw (8th, 31.21m) while also helping WSU to eighth place in the 4x400 meter relay (4:03.43) at the Horizon League Outdoor Championship. She had team-best marks in the 100-meter dash (13.31), long jump (5.02m), shot put (9.68m), javelin (32.21m), and heptathlon (3,965 pts). The Psychology major has been named to the HL Honor Roll for four consecutive semesters.Â
