Wright State Athletics is saddened by the passing of former men's basketball coach Marcus Jackson, who passed away last weekend.

Jackson was the second coach in the history of the men's basketball program, guiding the team from 1975-1978 and amassing a 45-37 career record at the helm of the Raiders. His first Raider squad in 1975-76 finished with a 20-8 record and finished third in the Great Lakes Regional in the NCAA Division II tournament at Evansville, Indiana. Bob Grote became the first all-America player in Wright State program history under Jackson in 1975-76 when he was an honorable mention by the Associated Press.

A native of South Bend, Indiana, Jackson graduated from Clay High School and was an all-city performer in basketball and track. His coaching career began at St. Teresa Junior High in Huron, South Dakota and included time at Central High School in South Bend and at Culver Military Academy before moving to the collegiate ranks. Jackson's collegiate career included head coaching stints at Baltimore Community College, Coe College and Dartmouth in addition to his three seasons at Wright State before exiting the coaching profession and going into business.

Jackson received his Bachelor of Science degree from Huron University in South Dakota in 1966, playing three seasons of basketball before entering the coaching profession. He continued his education with a Master of Science degree from Indiana University in 1970. Jackson was inducted in the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.
