2023 Under Armour #HLXC Preseason Poll Released

INDIANAPOLIS — The Wright State men's and women's cross country teams each learned their ranking in the Under Armour Horizon League preseason coaches poll, announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon.

The Raider men were selected seventh overall with 37 points, while the women's team took the eighth spot with 46 points.

Youngstown State topped the men's poll with 99 points and nine first-place votes, while IUPUI received the second spot with 91 points and one first-place vote. Purdue Fort Wayne (77), Oakland (64), Milwaukee (60), and Northern Kentucky (47) edged Wright State in the following four spots. Rounding out the poll behind the Raiders in seventh were Robert Morris (33), Green Bay (25), and Detroit Mercy (17).

On the women's side, Milwaukee was projected to win the conference with 113 points and seven first-place votes. Oakland claimed second with 102 points and three first-place votes, closely followed by YSU in third with 101 points and a single first-place vote. IUPUI (89), PFW (76), Detroit Mercy (57), and NKU (56) finished ahead of the Raider women in the poll's fourth through seventh spots. Green Bay (43), RMU (27), and Cleveland State (16) marked the final three teams in the poll.

WSU turned in a pair of ninth-place team finishes at the 2022 Horizon League Championship, highlighted by Alicia Neumeier and Max Pettit earning Second Team All-League honors at the conclusion of the meet. The Raiders 2023 roster features 19 returnees from last year's squad and 17 newcomers.

Wright State opens the fall slate this Friday with the Mike Baumer Cross Country Classic before later hosting the Wild Bill Invite on October 20. The Raiders are also serving as the host of the 2023 Horizon League Cross Country Championship, to be held October 28. All three home meets will be run at Fairborn Community Park.
